LOS ANGELES — A magnitude 4.2 earthquake struck close to Malibu and the South Bay at 2 a.m. Wednesday, in response to stories from the U.S. Geological Survey.
A magnitude 3.5 aftershock adopted the preliminary earthquake at 2:03 a.m. Smaller aftershocks then hit at 2:22 a.m. (magnitude 2.8) and a couple of:38 a.m. (magnitude 2.6).
It was centered offshore, about 10 miles south of Malibu and 15 miles southwest of Santa Monica.
It was about 9 miles deep. It was centered 15.4 miles west of Venice and 16.3 miles west of El Segundo.
